Thailand is making significant strides in enhancing its global aviation connections through strategic collaborations with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, alongside efforts to upgrade its regional airport infrastructure. These initiatives are set to bolster connectivity and support the nation’s thriving tourism sector.

In a noteworthy development, Vietnam Airlines inaugurated a new air route linking Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket on July 2. The service, which operates four times a week, offers an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. This addition aims to accommodate the increasing demand for travel from Vietnam, a country that saw over 300,000 of its citizens visiting Thailand in the first half of the year alone.

Similarly, flydubai is expanding its presence in the region with the launch of daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok starting July 1. In response to growing demand, the airline plans to double this service to twice daily beginning September 15, further strengthening the connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.

In addition to these airline partnerships, Thailand is taking a significant step to enhance its air traffic management by planning the introduction of the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at regional airports. This system is designed to improve operational efficiency and facilitate greater access to secondary cities. The AFIS is expected to be operational at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential expansions to other regional airports being considered.
