Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently led a delegation to the Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie, aiming to bolster cooperation between Vietnamese regions and northeastern Cambodia. The visit focused on assessing Vietnamese business activities and evaluating the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community in these areas.
During discussions with local Cambodian leaders, both parties explored the potential for expanding collaboration across various sectors, including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials underscored the increasing connections with Vietnamese provinces facilitated through cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and development initiatives. The province of Kratie specifically acknowledged the strides made in diplomatic and socio-economic partnerships with Vietnam, citing infrastructure support and collaborative efforts in the recovery and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during the Cambodian conflict.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ expressed appreciation for the impact of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. He noted that these ventures have not only spurred local economic development but also fortified bilateral relations. Meanwhile, in Stung Treng, local officials highlighted the province’s promising investment prospects, particularly in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, and encouraged Vietnamese businesses to seize these opportunities.
The ambassador also engaged with the Vietnamese-origin community, addressing their legal and livelihood concerns. He emphasized the importance of adhering to local regulations and promoted educational and sustainable development initiatives. Vietnam’s investment footprint in Cambodia is significant, with over 200 projects and a total registered capital nearing $3 billion, positioning Vietnam as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors.
