In a bid to fortify their defence collaboration, Vietnam and Malaysia are enhancing their bilateral ties, contributing to the stability of the region. This development follows discussions in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. The Vietnamese official commended the ambassador for his significant role in advancing the cooperation between the two nations during his tenure.

General Giang underscored the strides made in defence relations, noting the regularity of military exchanges, policy dialogues, and training partnerships, as well as the coordination at both international and multilateral forums. These efforts mark a robust framework of collaboration that both nations are keen to enhance further.

Looking ahead, General Giang urged the sustained implementation of existing agreements and advocated for intensified engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. In a gesture that underscores the importance of ongoing collaboration, he extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to participate in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to take place in Hanoi.

Ambassador Tan Yang Thai expressed his gratitude to Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support throughout his term. He conveyed optimism that the defence ties between Vietnam and Malaysia will continue to flourish, thereby contributing positively to peace and prosperity within the region.
