Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has emphasized the strategic importance of investing in physical education and sports as a means to enhance national health and strength. Speaking at a recent meeting on sports development, Lam underscored the role of sports not merely as a cultural and social activity but as a crucial component of the country’s broader human development and workforce strategy.

Lam called for heightened focus on school sports, advocating for improved facilities, equipment, and the hiring of qualified teachers. He also encouraged the use of public sports facilities beyond school hours and the creation of exercise spaces in urban areas, residential communities, and industrial zones to promote wider participation in physical activities.

For elite sports, Lam proposed the establishment of a long-term talent development system that would include early identification, professional training, scientific support, and international competition. He stressed that investments should be directed towards athletes and sports disciplines with the potential to compete on an international level.

Highlighting the significance of science in sports, Lam pointed to the need for advancements in sports science, medicine, nutrition, recovery, psychology, and data-driven training to bolster athletic performance. He also discussed the potential for developing the sports economy through increased involvement from society and the private sector, while insisting on continued government oversight and a strengthened role for sports organizations.
