During a recent meeting in Hanoi, senior officials from Vietnam and Japan underscored their dedication to enhancing collaboration between their respective ruling parties and legislative bodies. Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a high-ranking official from the Communist Party of Vietnam, engaged in discussions with Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), to solidify this commitment.

Both parties expressed satisfaction with the ongoing development of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They agreed on the importance of deepening political dialogue and fostering parliamentary exchanges, a sentiment strengthened by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s earlier visit to Vietnam this year. The talks emphasized the mutual benefits of reinforcing these diplomatic ties.

Nguyễn Duy Ngọc took the opportunity to highlight Vietnam’s robust economic growth and the strides made in administrative reforms. He proposed that Japan assist by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization, which could prove invaluable to Vietnam’s institutional progress. He also advocated for expanded collaboration in several key areas, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, economic security, green transition, and quantum technology.

Emphasizing the importance of connecting the nations’ legislative bodies, Nguyễn Duy Ngọc called for stronger cooperation between the two countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and encouraged increased interaction among young lawmakers. In addition, he requested that Japan continue its support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan and suggested simplifying visa procedures, with a long-term vision of establishing visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens.

In response, Hagiuda Koichi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. He assured that the Liberal Democratic Party and Japan’s parliament would keep promoting exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This mutual understanding aims to foster stronger ties and shared progress between the two nations.
