In a bid to enhance bilateral relations and explore new avenues for cooperation, Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held talks in Tbilisi on October 12. The discussions focused on expanding trade, investment, tourism, education, and infrastructure between Vietnam and Georgia.

Prime Minister Kobakhidze reiterated Georgia’s commitment to strengthening ties with Vietnam, emphasizing the growing economic relations and complementary strengths of the two countries. Over the past five years, bilateral trade has increased sixfold, and the number of Vietnamese visitors to Georgia surged by 41% in the first half of 2026. Both leaders expressed interest in improving transport links, which could include the establishment of direct flights between the two nations.

Vice President Xuân advocated for enhanced diplomatic exchanges, better market access for Vietnamese products, and greater business cooperation. She highlighted opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, food processing, infrastructure, innovation, tourism, and education. Xuân also encouraged closer cultural and people-to-people exchanges to foster a deeper understanding between the two countries.

In addition to economic collaboration, the leaders agreed to bolster cooperation in defense and security and to coordinate efforts at international organizations like the United Nations. They also discussed expanding connections between Vietnam, Georgia, and ASEAN member states. The talks resulted in the signing of cooperation memorandums between their foreign ministries and agricultural and environmental authorities.

Further agreements are sought in areas such as investment protection, double taxation avoidance, and visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders. Both sides expressed optimism about the future of their bilateral relations and agreed to begin preparations for activities marking the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
