Vietnam and Canada have taken a significant step in strengthening their bilateral relationship by adopting an Action Plan for their Strategic Partnership. During talks in Ottawa, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand agreed on a comprehensive framework aimed at transforming previous commitments into concrete initiatives across various sectors.
The Action Plan encompasses a wide range of areas, including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. This extensive scope highlights the ambition of both nations to deepen their collaboration on multiple fronts.
Both ministers emphasized the importance of regularly reviewing and updating the plan to ensure effective implementation. They called for enhanced coordination among government agencies, local authorities, and businesses to achieve the goals set out in the plan. Furthermore, they agreed to strengthen existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and explore new dialogue frameworks that hold strategic significance for both countries.
In addition to bilateral issues, the ministers discussed regional and international matters, expressing a shared commitment to cooperate through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC. This cooperation extends to supporting each other’s hosting of APEC meetings in 2027 and 2029, as well as Vietnam’s support for Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028.
This strategic partnership between Vietnam and Canada signals a commitment to not only enhance their bilateral relations but also to play a more active role in addressing regional and global challenges. The Action Plan serves as a roadmap for future collaboration and a testament to the growing importance of their partnership on the international stage.
