Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in strengthening the collaboration between ASEAN and Russia, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung noted Vietnam’s considerable contributions to the summit’s success, highlighting its efforts to bolster ASEAN’s central position and support the deepening of strategic partnerships with Russia.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, the Vietnamese delegation stressed the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful dispute resolution, while advocating for adherence to international law. During the summit, Vietnam proposed expanding cooperation in critical sectors such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation, signaling its commitment to future collaboration.
The summit resulted in the adoption of new frameworks designed to enhance ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy identified as a significant focus of the partnership. Additionally, Vietnam announced its plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027, further demonstrating its dedication to nurturing regional cooperation in the coming years.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks reaffirmed the mutual commitment to advancing the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on expanding collaboration in areas like energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport.
Vietnam emphasized that the outcomes of the summit are poised to strengthen ASEAN–Russia relations, enhance regional stability, and open new avenues for economic growth and cooperation across the Eurasian landscape. This reflects a sustained effort to build on the existing dialogue and foster deeper ties between member nations and Russia.
