Vietnam’s 16th National Assembly is gearing up for its first extraordinary session, scheduled to take place from August 3 to August 24 in Hanoi. During this session, lawmakers will address an extensive legislative agenda that includes the consideration of significant national projects. A total of 33 agenda items are on the table, which encompass the approval of 15 draft laws, four draft resolutions, and initial readings of seven additional bills. Deliberations will also cover discussions on seven crucial national issues.
The proposed legislation spans various sectors, including petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense. This legislative session aims to tackle these diverse areas to ensure comprehensive development and regulation across Vietnam’s societal and economic landscape.
Lawmakers are set to review several major infrastructure and development initiatives during this session. Among these are the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5 project and proposed adjustments to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway project. Additionally, the assembly will consider developments related to the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project, alongside the formation of new cities in Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh.
Furthermore, special policy mechanisms will be discussed to facilitate advancements in renewable energy, projects related to APEC 2027, and efforts towards digital transformation. This session represents a critical opportunity for Vietnam to forge ahead with its national development goals and address pressing issues that hold significant implications for the country’s future growth and stability.
