Vietnam has underscored its pivotal role in enhancing collaboration between ASEAN and Russia, a focus that was prominently displayed during the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit celebrating 35 years of dialogue relations. According to Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung, Vietnam played a crucial role in the summit’s successes, pushing for ASEAN’s central leadership role while advocating for a deeper strategic partnership with Russia.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng led the Vietnamese delegation, which concentrated on promoting dialogue and cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law. Vietnam put forward proposals aimed at broadening cooperation in vital sectors such as energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. The summit concluded with the adoption of new frameworks designed to bolster ASEAN–Russia cooperation up to 2030, with energy identified as a key component of the partnership.
In addition to these frameworks, Vietnam announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027, a move that demonstrates its dedication to nurturing future regional cooperation. This initiative is part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to enhance regional stability and open up new avenues for economic growth and cooperation across the Eurasian region.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Their talks centered on expanding collaboration across several domains, including energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transportation.
Vietnam emphasized that the outcomes of the summit are expected to fortify ASEAN–Russia relations, boost regional stability, and create new opportunities for economic development and cooperation throughout Eurasia. The steps taken and commitments made during the summit reflect Vietnam’s growing influence and active participation in regional and international affairs.
