Vietnam has reiterated its dedication to aiding Myanmar through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), stressing that the Five-Point Consensus remains the primary framework to guide the country towards peace and stability. During an informal ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting held in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung highlighted Vietnam’s continued recognition of Myanmar as a vital ASEAN member. He emphasized support for initiatives aimed at fostering national reconciliation, spurring economic recovery, and enhancing governance in Myanmar.
Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung urged ASEAN to undertake more practical and concrete actions, including maintaining regular dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar. Such efforts, he suggested, would enable better monitoring of developments and encourage substantive progress. Vietnam also indicated its willingness to closely collaborate with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member states to assist Myanmar in addressing social challenges, combating transnational crime, and reinforcing regional cooperation.
At the meeting, ASEAN ministers collectively reaffirmed their dedication to supporting a solution led by Myanmar through ongoing dialogue and the effective implementation of the Five-Point Consensus. The ministers emphasized the importance of promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region, underscoring their collective commitment to these objectives.
Vietnam’s proactive stance reflects its broader strategic interests in maintaining stability and cohesion within ASEAN. By advocating for a balanced approach that combines dialogue with concrete actions, Vietnam aims to contribute to a resolution that respects Myanmar’s sovereignty while addressing the pressing issues facing the nation.
