Vietnam and Denmark have taken a significant step toward enhancing their bilateral relations by establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Announced during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, the partnership aims to bolster cooperation in various sectors such as trade, investment, technology, defense, security, and sustainable development. This development coincides with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The new partnership builds on the foundations set by their Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023. Both countries are committed to expanding political dialogue, as well as parliamentary and economic cooperation, with a strong focus on renewable energy, green technology, and digital transformation. Additionally, they aim to promote manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport sectors.
Vietnam and Denmark have pledged to enhance business investment, strengthen supply chains, and improve market access through existing trade agreements. Notably, the agreement emphasizes collaboration on climate action, energy efficiency, and the development of renewable energy projects, aligning with Vietnam’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
In addition to economic and environmental initiatives, the partnership will cover maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health. Both nations have reaffirmed their commitment to international law, multilateral cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes, while also voicing support for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and stronger cooperation with ASEAN.
To ensure the effective implementation of their commitments, the governments of Vietnam and Denmark will develop action plans aimed at turning their objectives into practical cooperation. This strategic move marks a milestone in their diplomatic relations, setting the stage for deeper and more comprehensive collaboration in the future.
