Vietnam and the World Bank have renewed their commitment to enhancing collaboration on critical issues such as water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. This reaffirmation occurred during a meeting in Hanoi between Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng and senior officials from the World Bank. Both parties emphasized the importance of their partnership, particularly in addressing the pressing environmental challenges facing Vietnam.
The Vietnamese government acknowledged the significant contributions of the World Bank in areas including infrastructure development, environmental protection, agriculture, and sustainability. Projects supported by the World Bank have notably advanced Vietnam’s efforts in managing water resources, bolstering food security, and adapting to climate change. Deputy Prime Minister Dũng highlighted the strategic importance of water security for Vietnam, especially in light of the growing climate-related challenges affecting regions like the Mekong Delta.
During the meeting, Dũng expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s “Water for the Future” initiative and advocated for the expansion of their long-term cooperation in water management and climate resilience. This initiative aligns with Vietnam’s priorities, as the country continues to face significant environmental hurdles. The World Bank, in turn, reiterated its dedication to supporting Vietnam through various means, including financial backing, technical assistance, policy advice, and the sharing of international expertise.
Both parties discussed the potential for strengthening cooperation in areas such as climate finance, sustainable water management, disaster resilience, and green development. There was a common understanding of the need to accelerate projects that benefit vulnerable communities and promote enduring environmental sustainability. The World Bank officials underscored that water security and climate adaptation would be central to their upcoming partnership framework with Vietnam, reflecting a mutual commitment to addressing these vital issues.
